Rich Fulcher
The Pleasance, Edinburgh 1997
By Steve Owen
As Professor Fulcher, Rich lectures on how and why comedy works, but generally ignores his own findings and rukes, The idea is sound, and Fulcher is incredibly likeable in his character, and he certainly has many funny things to say, but so often you are just checking your watch, wondering when it will all be over. There is certainly intelligence in his act, particularly when Rich improvises a new version of an audience member's favourite film starring someone else's favourite actor.
But this occurred two thirds of the way through the show, and he;d mostly lot his miniscule crowd's attention by then. Now I don't want to be accused of being a snitch, but Fist of Fun's Stuart Lee (how it is spelt in the review - S) was in the audience behind us, anbd he seemed distinctly unimpressed by the show he had just seen. Perhaps a little harsh, but we shared some common ground.
